Tasks

Tasks are used to document engineering discussions, concepts, and work undertaken. Each task belongs to a parent project.

Scope

Tasks are intended to represent a single, atomic piece of work. For example, an engineering manager may create a task titled:

Repeat Main Bearing Load Calculations

The task entity would then be used to document all work undertaken, including discussions with other relevant stakeholders, in the course of repeating the main bearing load calculations.

Task Statuses

By default, tasks can take one of four statuses:

  1. Open
  2. In Progress
  3. In Review
  4. Complete

When a new task is created, it assumes the Open status, and its status can be modified to In Progress or In Review via the task page controls, or via a task board.

To reach the Complete status, a task must first be reviewed in-line with the workspace review and approval configuration, then its status can again be modified via the task page or a task board.

Customization Options
In keeping with both our considered opinion on engineering operations and our preference for opinionated software, the default task status options are fixed. However, it is technically feasible to customize these options on a per-workspace basis.

Task Priorities

By default, tasks can take one of three priorities:

  1. Low
  2. Medium
  3. High

Task priority must be assigned during task creation, and can be modified via the task page.
